The Basque Country’s School of Music, Musikene, is joining forces with the Orfeón Donostiarra to perform “Requiem” for a mixed four-voice choir and orchestra by Luigi Cherubini (1760-1842), one of the most unusual masses for the dead since it has no solo singers. It was written by the composer in 1816 in memory of Louis XVI, who was beheaded in the French Revolution. This work combines musical moments of tragedy, fear, and surprise with other more emotive elements.

The maestro Víctor Pablo Pérez is leading this project, which combines the energy of the Musikene Symphony Orchestra and the experience of the Orfeón Donostiarra choral ensemble. The recital begins with the “Concerto for viola and orchestra” by Béla Bartók (1881 – 1945), featuring the young Russian viola soloist who trained at Musikene, Yana Kucherova
