The Arriaga Theatre welcomes Double Murder, a new, exciting double program by the internationally renowned choreographer Hofesh Shechter, whose work Grand Finale was extremely moving when it came to our theatre in 2019.

With Double Murder, he provides two compositions designed for our time and that contrast sharply. One half of the evening is clowns, a sarcastic knowing nod to our growing indifference to violence; originally created by the Nederlands Dans Theater 1 and later produced as a film and broadcast by the BBC with great success. In a macabre comedy of murder and desire, Clowns unleashes a whirlwind of choreographed anarchy, testing just how far we’re willing to go in the name of entertainment.

As an antidote to the poisonous, murderous energy of Clowns, Shechter’s new creation, The Fix, brings a tender and fragile energy to the stage. It offers a raw and compassionate moment to counteract the forces of aggression and violence that press on us daily. A shield to protect us from the noise of life outside, and a place that allows performers to be fragile, to be seen for their highest human qualities. Violence, tenderness, and hope are laid bare through Shechter’s achingly beautiful cinematic lens.

Performed by his inimitable dancers, and accompanied by the epic sounds of a score composed by Hofesh Shechter himself, Double Murder explores painful truths and delves into our deepest emotions.

Hofesh Shechter is considered one of today’s most exciting choreographers; he develops atmospheric musical compositions to complement the unusual physicality of his dance movement. He is the artistic director of the Hofesh Shechter Company, based at the Brighton Dome, and works as a choreographer for different theatre productions, such as the Royal Court Theatre in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and on Broadway, where he was nominated for a Tony Award. for Fiddler on the Roof.
