Romeo y Julieta

A modern take on a great classic, performed by young artists

14 february 2017

Two young lovers decide to marry in secret, in spite of opposition from their rivalling families. However, the pressure of this rivalry and a series of fatalities will bring their lives to an end. This version of Romeo and Juliet stays closely to Shakespeare’s original text but with a more contemporary staging to make it more accessible to modern audiences.

This is the first project developed by Compañía Joven, a theatre company created in the Pabellón 6 theatre lab. The actors and actresses are from various stage and drama schools around the Basque Country. For some, this is their first ever production, whereas others have already begun developing their burgeoning acting career in previous productions. The idea is to continue this project through the years to come, changing cast members, directors and members of the technical team.
