Lu eta Le

Two geniuses from the Basque culture plagued by an undesired seduction

30 january 2017

Play written by Bernardo Atxaga with music by Juan Carlos Pérez which refers to Lourdes Iriondo (LU) and Xabier Lete (LE), members of the Ez dok amairu group, an avant-garde cultural movement that was devoted to recovering the Basque culture and renewing it between 1966 and 1972.

LU was a brilliant woman, singer and writer who Gabriel Aresti even referred to as “the girlfriend of the Basque Country”. LE, as well as being a singer-songwriter, developed an important poetic play and won the Critics’ Award in 2008.

However, in parallel, they both lived with death during a good part of their life as they had to fight serious health problems. ‘Lu eta Le’, in a tone of soft irony, reflects the relationship between them both and this Death that they resist giving in to, but one day, it inexorably reaches them.
