LOS DOS HIDALGOS DE VERONA
Love and friendship intertwine in this immortal comedy by Shakespeare, directed by Declan Donellan.
If Shakespeare is one of the builders of the modern human soul, as Harold Bloom affirms, in *The Two Gentlemen of Verona* he begins to develop many of the elements that will define this conception of the human being. *The Two Gentlemen of Verona* is one of the first comedies in which he fine-tunes the tensions between friendship and love, tensions that played a significant role in the literature of the late Renaissance. Friendship, understood as a form of love without sex, was being explored from many perspectives and exalted as a form of high emotional commitment, opposed to romantic relationships. Written shortly before *Romeo and Juliet*, it shares many viewpoints and dramatic tensions with the latter. We also find in it one of the most emblematic creations of the comedic servant character, which will later inspire both the Bard’s theatre and that of his followers.
This immortal work by Shakespeare arrives at the Teatro Arriaga directed by Declan Donellan, who is also responsible for the adaptation alongside Nick Ormerod.
