The discovery of a body in the Olba reservoir starts off the tale.  The main character, Esteban, is forced to close down his carpenter’s business, leaving his workers on the dole.  Whilst looking after his terminally ill father, Esteban looks into the reasons behind a ruin, taking on a double role of victim and murderer, among the ruins of which lies the values that have governed a society, a world and an era.

“On the Shore” is based on the novel of the same name by Rafael Chirbes (National Critics Award 2014, Francisco Umbral Award and National Narrative Award), that Adolfo Fernández, director of the play, describes as a “story of abstract landscapes (so un-theatre like) and extremely introverted characters (even less theatre like; laugh at Bergman). No novel better describes this example of  describe the bourgeoisie fallen into disgrace the day after the bubble burst”.
