The Young Nacho Duato Company was created with the noble mission of enriching the dance scene in Spain and expanding career opportunities for young dancers. One of the company’s fundamental pillars is the recovery of Nacho Duato’s repertoire. His ballets are true jewels that deserve to be preserved and shared with new generations of audiences and artists.

The company presents a triple bill at Teatro Arriaga. Duato fell in love with Debussy’s music a long time ago, especially with the composer’s ability to turn the sounds of nature into music. When he listens to Debussy, Duato sees shapes rather than people, relationships or events. For this reason, he considers *Duende*, the piece that opens the programme, to be an almost sculptural work: a body, a movement in harmony with the melody. In a playful way, the ballet also explores the different meanings of the word that gives it its title: *tener duende* may suggest personal charm, or the mysterious magic of flamenco art; and *duendes*, depending on whether they belong to children’s stories or the imagination of superstitious minds, take on very different forms.

The second choreography of the evening is entitled *L’Amoroso* and will be fresh from its premiere when it reaches Arriaga, as it will have debuted in Burgos only a few days earlier. Finally, the CDND will perform *Cantus*, a work by Nacho Duato created for his young company, which speaks of the horrors of war through the eyes of young people caught in the middle of conflict, and of how violence and destruction affect their lives. The piece is accompanied by the moving music of Karl Jenkins, which enhances the depth of its narrative and emotions.
