PANORAMA DESDE EL PUENTE
An emblematic work of contemporary theatre that tackles themes of full relevance today.
*A View from the Bridge*, by Arthur Miller, is a tragedy that explores the emotional and social tensions within an Italian-American community in 1950s Brooklyn, New York. The play centres on Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman who lives with his wife Beatrice and her niece, Catherine. The arrival of two undocumented immigrants, Marco and Rodolfo, sets off a series of conflicts that expose Eddie’s hidden passions and contradictions.
At first protective of Catherine, Eddie develops an obsession with her that leads him to question Rodolfo’s intentions when the young man begins a romance with her. As jealousy and mistrust grow, Eddie makes decisions that place him in conflict both with his community and with his own sense of morality. The play culminates in a tragedy that lays bare the complexities of desire, loyalty and justice.
