Blending illusion, acrobatics, magic, and fantasy seamlessly, MOMIX takes the audience down the rabbit hole in Moses Pendleton’s new creation, ALICE, a personal and entirely free adaptation of one of the most recognizable, whimsical, entertaining, and magical stories in universal literature: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, published in 1865 by Lewis Carroll.
ALICE presents us with a constantly transforming Alice, a body with no defined limits that grows, shrinks, and grows again in a dance full of magic and visual effects. In this new twist by MOMIX, Pendleton’s dancers expand their own bodies through supports, ropes, and the bodies of other dancers, enveloped in an impressive display of images, mirages, music, artifacts, and the exquisite and dazzling costumes created by Phoebe Katzin. As in all MOMIX productions, you never know what’s going to happen. The audience will embark on a magical, mysterious, fun, eccentric, and much more journey.
Fair Saturday
The Teatro Arriaga once again joins the Fair Saturday initiative, which will take place on Saturday, 30th November. On this day, artists, cultural organisations, groups, and venues from various cities will come together to form a global cultural and social movement, with each event supporting an NGO or social project. Therefore, the performances of *Alice* on Saturday – at 17:30 and 21:30 – will be part of the various activities of Fair Saturday, and a portion of the proceeds from these performances will be donated to ADELA BIZKAIA, a non-profit organisation founded in 1997 and part of ADELA EUSKAL HERRIA (ADELA E.H.), the Federation of Associations of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
The mission of ADELA BIZKAIA is to improve the quality of life for all those affected by ALS, as well as their families and close support network. Its purpose is to accompany and support them through the course of the disease, in their daily lives, trying to alleviate suffering and using its experience, resources, projects, and close proximity to help provide them with a dignified life. Its work programme is aimed at those affected and their families, but also promotes projects to raise awareness among healthcare professionals, public institutions, social agents, and society at large, in order to raise awareness of the social reality of those affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
