La valentía
When everything we thought was solid shatters, we begin to feel fear
When everything we thought was solid shatters, we begin to feel fear
“La valentía” (Courage) is the latest work written and directed by Alfredo Sanzol, winner of the National Dramatic Literature Award 2017 and recently appointed Director of the National Dramatic Center (Centro Dramático Nacional).
Sisters Guada and Trini have inherited the family home where they spent their summers. They both love the house, but there’s a problem: a motorway passes right by the house. For Guada the house is more important than the noise, but for Trini silence is more important than the house.
With elements of black comedy, screwball humour and vaudeville, this play reflects on that magnificent beauty, which we want to let in, erasing the pain screwed into our memory, but alas that is impossible because that pain is a part of us. When we try to make room for it, our soul suffers, everything we thought was solid shatters, and we begin to feel fear. Only one force can help us: courage.
