La Strada

Fellini’s legendary, iconic film, staged by Mario Gas

09 to 12 may 2019

Poverty and poetry shake hands in this show set in post-war Italy. A naïve young woman is purchased from her impoverished mother by a brutish circus strongman to be his wife and partner. The relationship between them is contradictory, at times illuminated by the flickering flame of love. She is too shy and he is too proud.

Both are lonely and under the effects of marginalisation, rootlessness and destitution. When they meet  El Loco (The Fool), a high wire artist and clown, events unfold, leading to an inevitable tragic end.
