Ismael Serrano: La llamada

“La llamada” contains 13 tracks in which struggle takes on the form of celebration and the cure for lack of love.

“Let them not forget your joy”, reads the title song in “La llamada”. And maybe it´s the best way of summarising Ismael Serrano´s new album: in defence of joy, as in the poem by Mario Benedetti, from the rotten in contemporary life. “La llamada” contains 13 tracks in which struggle takes on the form of celebration and the cure for lack of love is to be found in a few beats of candombe, the epic of the hopeless is told to the rhythm of bass drums and anger is conjured up to dress squares and boulevards in spring clothes. Let´s stop crying: it´s time to face the music.

This album looks south like no other by Serrano before. After all, Madrid, with its seaport, its roaring waves´ is nothing but a boardwalk in a Latin American city.

Ismael Serrano (1974) grew up in the district of Vallecas, in Madrid. He released his first album, “Atrapados en azul”, in 1997. Since then, he´s launched eight studio and two live music albums. “La llamada” is his eleventh work so far.
