ARTURO UI eta bere GORAKADA JASANEZINA
What if it happened here?
In the famous gangster city of Bilbao, one man dreams of power. In 20th-century Germany, that man was called Adolf Hitler. Today, in this Bilbao, his name is Arturo Ui. In the middle of an economic crisis, the oligarchs of the Potato Consortium turn to the respectable Mayor Canino to secure an “innocent” loan. But the corruption that will save the potato monopoly will also become the staircase by which Arturo Ui and his gangsters rise.
Brought to life by the new Gazte Konpainia / Young Company of Pabellón 6, this energetic Basque-language version of *The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui* by Bertolt Brecht embraces a dynamic ensemble approach to explore one of the most disturbingly current phenomena of the last century: the rise of fascism. Brecht’s satirical and defiant cry reverberates from the stage and floods the auditorium: What are we going to do? Or are we simply going to watch?
