Anne Etchegoyen is back at the Arriaga Theatre with a new project in which she defends the role of women in Basque society. The figure of the etxeko andere – housewife, housekeeper, wife, mother – is, in a way, oversimplifying. Basque women have played these and other, more exciting, roles in history: adventurous, passionate, resilient and loving, artists, adventurers and lovers.

Coming on stage with four young professional singers (aged 20 to 35), Anne will offer audiences in Bilbao a fresh look at Basque women through her own songs and Basque tunes traditionally sung by men, now in new arrangements: ‘Boga boga’, ‘Mendian gora haritza’, ‘Askatasunera’, and many others.
