PURCELL & BRITTEN: VOICES ACROSS TIME

A sonic arc between two essential figures of English music: Henry Purcell and Benjamin Britten.

08 april 2027

Separated by almost three centuries, the composers Henry Purcell and Benjamin Britten share a unique sensitivity to the sung word and a profound expressiveness in vocal miniature.

The first part of this recital, with harpsichord and countertenor, immerses us in Purcell’s baroque universe, where musical rhetoric and emotional intimacy are naturally intertwined.

In the second half, the piano takes over to accompany Britten’s songs, heir to and renewer of that tradition, whose writing reveals a modern outlook without losing its connection to the past.

This dialogue between eras offers a journey in which the voice travels through time, revealing affinities, contrasts and transformations in English song.
