Winner of the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album for their latest album Freedom, a collection of songs celebrating and commemorating South Africa’s democratic movements for freedom, Soweto Gospel Choir now brings their Freedom concert to Europe.
Hailing from Soweto (South West Township), a township on the outskirts of Johannesburg, once home to Nelson Mandela and the South African movement for democracy, Soweto Gospel Choir inspires audiences around the world with their powerful blend of African gospel, freedom hymns and international classics.
The ensemble is made up of great voices from South Africa, inspiring artists who have shared the stage with musical giants such as U2, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Robert Plant, Celine Dion, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Groban and others.
Their uplifting and joyful repertoire ranges from celebrations of Nelson Mandela’s life, international gospel classics, wonderful versions such as Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, majestic renditions of “Amazing Grace”, such as the one that has had over 17 million views on YouTube, etc. A night of heavenly music is on the horizon.
