In Foreign Lands: Exiles, Exile, and ‘Transtierros’

Exile, banishment, and ‘transtierro’ are the main thematic axes of this recital, presenting a rare repertoire of songs by composers who endured exile after the Spanish Civil War —such as Salvador Bacarisse, Julián Bautista, or the so-called “internal exile” of Fernando Remacha— combined with songs by other composers who were in ‘transtierro’ or explored in their themes the pain caused by exile and banishment.

Songs by Joan Maria Thomàs (1896-1966), Salvador Bacarisse (1898-1963), Julián Bautista (1901-1961), María Rodrigo (1888-1967), Fernando Remacha (1898-1984), and Emiliana de Zubeldia (1888-1987).
