MARISA MARTINS Y MIQUEL ORTEGA
A recital that brings composers who have distinguished themselves by maintaining a fidelity to melody.
Within the lieder creation of the 20th century and the first quarter of the 21st century, Spain, France, and Argentina are three countries that have stood out for maintaining, in general, a fidelity to melody, regardless of the harmonic treatment their composers have used. This recital by Marisa Martins and Miquel Ortega brings to the audience works by three 20th-century composers—Mompou, Poulenc, and Guastavino—presented in chronological order, along with pieces by a composer and a composer born in the 20th century, who created much of their work in the past century but are still active today: Mariona Vila and Miquel Ortega himself.
For the composers who are no longer with us, everything has been said. Mompou, Poulenc, and Guastavino are three great authors who hold a well-deserved place in history. Regarding the living authors, it should be noted that Mariona Vila’s recent work was premiered by Miquel Ortega in December 2024, along with countertenor Víctor Jiménez Díaz, for whom the cycle was dedicated. The concert also includes two works by Miquel Ortega himself. One of them brings together four texts by Federico García Lorca, composed and premiered during the 1990s. Finally, the cycle based on Golden Age texts was composed by Ortega between late 2018 and early 2019, and premiered at the International Festival Jesús López Cobos in Toro by soprano Conchi Moyano and pianist Aurelio Viribay. It will be a pleasure to enjoy all these works through the voice of Marisa Martins and the elegance at the piano of Maestro Ortega.
