Arriaga Theatre produces the famous play, La Clausura del Amor by Pascal Rambert, in the Basque language in which the author himself directs the two masterful performers.
ARRIAGA THEATRE’S NEW PRODUCTION
With passion and crudity, Miren Gaztañaga and Eneko Sagardoy bring to the stage a couple’s heartrending break-up in Maitasunaren itxiera. This play, produced by Arriaga Theatre, is the Basque adaptation of Clôture de l’ amour, by the French author and stage director Pascal Rambert, whose Spanish version La Clausura del Amor, by Teatro Kamikaze, was also a great success. Arriaga Theatre has now decided to promote and produce this play in the Basque language and what’s more, it is directed by Pascal Rambert himself.
Maitasunaren itxiera subjects a couple to a harsh discourse in which the protagonists exchange monologues that express the violence of a love in the process of dying. Fear and liberation intertwine in the couple’s heart-rending dialogue, a destructive and callous combat between a man and a woman.
Intensity, emotion, passion, crudity, heart-break … are some of the words that best define the interpretation in Maitasunaren itxiera, where the most important element – and sometimes more effective than physical torture – is language. Two lovers confront each other and decide to end forever a relationship that has been shaping yet destroying them for several years. Quarrels, accusations, reproaches, pain, rage and love converge with precise, cutting, torrential language, expressed very passionately and viscerally.
