Lamiako 1979 is a contemporary opera in Basque set in the neighbourhood of Lamiako at the end of the 20th century. The work explores the recovery of mythology and popular memory as tools for building collective identity. Through music and words, it reflects on belonging, loss, and the bond with the past.
The performance revolves around the participation of Leioa Kantika Korala, the scenic and musical core of the production. With more than twenty years of experience, the choir is now a leading name in Basque choral music. Its artistic activity includes international tours, awards, and the premiere of works by contemporary Basque composers.
The opera also features four soloists, an instrumental ensemble, and electronic music. The combination of oral tradition, contemporary writing, and electronic resources creates a distinctive sonic universe in which memory and modernity engage in dialogue within a stage experience of great evocative power.
