*The Threepenny Opera* is a play in a prologue and three acts, with music by Kurt Weill and a German libretto by Bertolt Brecht. In this work, Brecht sets out to denounce prostitution, poverty, and abuse of power during a time of deep economic crisis: the play premiered in Berlin in 1928, during the turbulent final years of the 1920s. Brecht’s text is a fierce critique of capitalism. To do so, he brings to the stage an updated version of John Gay’s English musical parody *The Beggar’s Opera*, and exposes the harshest version of an economic system that Brecht sees as a vast machine of organized crime.

Now, with the renowned Coque Malla in the leading role, Barco Pirata, Unahoramenos Producciones, and Teatro Pérez Galdós bring this work into the present, under the direction of Mario Vega (Unahoramenos Producciones).
