The best trips take us to places we’ve never been, or they take us to places that we thought we knew in a different way. The same happens with shows. La commedia è (in)finita takes us to Zurich, New York, Madrid, Naples, the Canary Islands, Barcelona, Vienna, Michigan… And, among many other things, this trip reveals the intimacy of an opera house dressing room, we take part in an audition, go to the opera, weather a snowstorm and share a table in a restaurant.
Guided by Ramon Gener and accompanied by Tosti, Rossini, Paisiello, Cimarosa, Donizetti, Martín i Soler, and many other magnificent travelling companions, we take a peek at the life and artistic adventures of Carlos Chausson, an internationally renown bajo bufo (buffoon that sings in a bass voice, from Italian theatre), in an intense, peculiar, surprising and very emotional recital.
The Italian composer Ruggero Leoncavallo finished his most famous opera in 1892, ‘Pagliacci’, with the words ‘La Commedia è finita’ (the comedy has finished). Today, over one hundred years later, the Aragonese bass singer Carlos Chausson is bidding farewell to the stage after a 40-year career. He will do this with a whole new recital, full of music, of course, but also truth, emotion, joy and unexpected twists and turns.
