ILKER ARCAYÜREK Y MALCOLM MARTINEAU
A musical evening full of beauty, depth, and drama with the Schumann surname.
Malcolm Martineau previously participated in the last edition of our Lied Arriagan cycle. This fantastic pianist, a regular at Carnegie Hall, the MET in New York, and the Royal Opera House in London, returns to visit us once again, this time accompanying Turkish tenor Ilker Arcayürek, a singer who is still not very well-known around here but is already a significant presence in the international circuit. Arcayürek, who stands out for his refined phrasing and the emotional intensity of his concerts, was the winner of the Hugo Wolf Academy’s International Singing Competition, a finalist at Cardiff Singer of the World 2015, and has been a New Generation Artist for BBC Radio 3.
Ilker Arcayürek and Malcolm Martineau arrive at the Arriaga to offer a musical evening dedicated to the lieder repertoire of Clara and Robert Schumann. The programme for this concert, held in collaboration with the Juan March Foundation, features a performance of the beautiful, deep, and dramatic *Lieder*, Op. 12 by Clara Schumann, with texts by Rückert, Heine, and Geibel; and *Dichterliebe*, Op. 48, by Robert Schumann, based on poems by Heinrich Heine, which tells the story of unrequited love with an emotional progression from hope to desolation.
In collaboration with the Juan March Foundation of Madrid.
