Summer of 1983. The famous English writer Roald Dahl is reviewing the proofs of his latest book before it goes to print. However, a scandal sparked by a recently published antisemitic article has placed him at the centre of a storm that shows no signs of abating. At his country home, surrounded by members of his inner circle and figures from the publishing world, he is forced to choose between issuing a public apology or standing by his words—at the risk of his reputation and career.
Inspired by real events, this play by Mark Rosenblatt presents a multifaceted portrait of a deeply charismatic artist, and explores—with sharpness and a touch of humour—the fine line between considered opinion and dangerously incendiary rhetoric.
