GESUALDO WC STATION
In a train station bathroom, a drama unfolds that spans the centuries.
In a forgotten train station bathroom, suspended in time: mirrors, booths, toilets, tiles, flickering lights; a drama unfolds that spans the centuries. Five a cappella voices resonate in the dimness, unearthing the madrigals from Carlo Gesualdo’s first and second books. Each note, each broken harmony, revives the tragedy of the composer: jealousy, betrayal, murder. On the other side, the roar of trains, the loudspeaker announcing departures and arrivals, voices and souls passing through; a bustle of crowds in which the chosen ones pass through the door to enter the scene of the terrible crime. The story of Gesualdo comes to life through four characters in this decadent space, where music becomes a confession and blood, an indelible memory.
Alex Gerediaga and his artistic team take on the challenge of staging and performing Gesualdo’s madrigals. Accompanied by the *Voces suaves* group from Basel, specialists in Gesualdo’s repertoire, they will present a proposal recognizable both for its aesthetic approach and its cinematic narrative.
With music by Carlo Gesualdo (1560-1613).
