GERNIKA

Aukeran Dantza Konpainia

The fusion of traditional Basque dance and contemporary dance as a vehicle for memory, emotion and truth.

06 march 2027

On the 90th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika, Loraldia Festibala will echo this tragic event and propose an exercise in collective memory through cultural action. Within this context, Aukeran Dantza Konpainia will present *Gernika* at Teatro Arriaga: a piece that takes the bombing of 26 April 1937 as its starting point in order to bring to the stage a reflection on collective memory, pain, and the possibility of rebirth through remembrance.

Those who died in the bombing return from death to tell what happened: what their lives were like before the destruction, how the hell of war was unleashed upon their town, and how, through memory, it is possible to rise again. This is not a linear historical account, but a sensory and emotional journey that moves from light to darkness, from everyday life to devastation, and from mourning to resistance.

Through the fusion of traditional Basque dance and contemporary dance, together with lighting, music, and imagery, the stage becomes a living canvas. *Gernika* is not only a work about the past: it is a call not to forget, and a demonstration of how dance can become a vehicle for memory, emotion, and truth.
