A new production by the Arriaga Theatre to be staged at various venues and close to the audience, in Basque and in Spanish, for almost two months. The text was written by Denise Despeyroux, based on the famous play by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen Hedda Gabler.
edda Gabbler is a play about freedom – or the lack of it. Hedda is trapped in a meaningless life. She has lost contact with her desire and feels there is only one thing she can do in the world: getting bored to death. Hers are awful times, everybody focusing on their own issues, without the energy to mind other people’s problems.
In this production, the psychological dynamics Ibsen’s characters are wrapped in has been transferred to a contemporary Basque setting, in the vanity fair that is the academic world.
Shows in Basque and Spanish.
