EL FINGIDOR

Circus, music, and words with Fernando Pessoa.

The universe of the Portuguese author through documentary images, poetry, prose, music, and circus language.

23 october 2025

Among the great poets of the 20th century, no one would fail to include the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. One of the individuals who has felt deeply connected to Pessoa’s poetry, work, and multiple life is the director, author, and actor Pep Tosar. Just as he did in his beautiful show *Federico García*, about Lorca, which we previously saw at the Arriaga, Tosar now presents his unique stage language, combining documentary theatre with a poetically dreamlike and precise staging, to recreate the vital and creative cosmos of the Portuguese author.

To shape *El Fingidor*, a dramaturgy co-created by Tosar and Evelyn Arévalo, the combination of multiple artistic languages and disciplines is more necessary than ever. Alongside Tosar’s voice, which verbalizes Pessoa’s poetry, prose, and correspondence, the circus company Hotel Iocandi, Griselda Juncà, and Tomeu Amer will embody Pessoa, his heteronyms, and those people we could call the “real” ones from his life. There will also be live music by singer Joana Gomila and pianist Elisabet Raspall, a combination that sends shivers down your spine. And, as in previous performances, the documentary video, filmed by the Mallorcan director Agustí Torres, will play an essential role.
