The musical style of Granados is an original blend that encompasses the great romantic tradition of Schumann and Chopin and the strong impulse behind musical nationalism, which was such a driving force in the late 19th century.

We will enjoy this concert on exactly the 100th anniversary of his death, as the ship on which he was travelling back to Spain sank following a long journey that began in New York. The German navy mistook the civil ship for a mining ship in the English Channel during the First World War. Just like a character in a romantic novel, Enric Granados saw his wife fighting against the waves and dived into rescue her, but they were both engulfed by the sea.
