Christian Gerhaher

Some say that, within the world of lyrical poetry, Lieder-lovers are a bit like hoodlums. If you are a true enthusiast of Lied, passionate about the genre, now is the time to show it. This is a date for you. The German baritone Christian Gerhaher is one of the best lieder singers of our time. Following in the footsteps of his compatriots, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, he has a very extensive repertoire of composers, especially German: Mahler, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss and Wolf.

Gerhaher has a velvety, lyrical baritone voice and a commendable ability to concentrate on the performance, to draw out the beauty sheathed in poetry and music. In the programme which he presents at Arriaga Theatre, accompanied by his regular pianist, Gerold Huber, he performs complete cycles of two of his favourite composers, Schumann and Debussy.
