BITARTEAN HELDU ESKUTIK – 25 URTE
Kirmen Uribe celebrates the 25th anniversary of his landmark poetry collection at Teatro Arriaga.
Twenty-five years ago, one of the most emblematic books of contemporary Basque poetry, Bitartean heldu eskutik (Susa), was published at the Durango Book and Record Fair.
Critic Jon Kortazar hailed it as a “quiet revolution”: clear, urban poetry that told the stories of real people — migrants, working women, addicts, trans people and fishermen — and was soon translated into Spanish, French, English and Russian. One of its poems, “Maiatza / May”, has recently appeared in The New Yorker’s centenary anthology.
The book was born at a time when Kirmen Uribe and Mikel Urdangarin regularly shared ideas, songs and projects. Twenty-five years later, this celebration brings them together once again in an intimate and unique performance of poetry and music that recaptures the creative energy of the beginning of the 21st century.
