Bereterretxeren khantoria is arguably the best-known medieval song throughout the Basque Country today. Its popularity owes much to singer-songwriters and their recordings, but it is also thanks to the dramatic nature of the story and the quality of the text. Passed down orally, this composition recounts one of the many episodes of conflict between rival clans. The crime denounced in the song took place between 1434 and 1449, and was ordered by the Count of Lerin. This musical performance thus brings to life a tragic, yet deeply human and universal story. The audience will be drawn into the unfolding tragedy, wrapped in the beauty of the poem through verses and music.
