BEETHOVEN FILM CONCERT
Cinema and symphonic music in tribute to the great German composer.
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death, this film about his life is being revived. It originally premiered in 1927, coinciding with the centenary. With the great character actor Fritz Kortner in the leading role, this silent film traces the most important stages of Beethoven’s life and links his personal journey to his great works, such as the Second Symphony, the *Eroica*, the Fifth and Ninth Symphonies, *Fidelio* and the *Missa Solemnis*. It was filmed in original locations such as Schönbrunn Palace.
The Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, conducted by Nacho de Paz, will perform a full orchestral score composed for the film in 2020 by German composer Malte Giesen, inspired by Beethoven’s music.
The audience will watch the film on a giant screen while the orchestra performs live at the same time. In recent years, Teatro Arriaga has already offered similar experiences with films such as *Vertigo*, *Nosferatu* and *Die Nibelungen*, among others.
