23F. ANATOMIA DE UN INSTANTE

By Javier Cercas and Àlex Rigola

A gesture, a coup d'état, decisive years for the future democracy

05 to 06 november 2021

A documentary theatre proposal. An insight into the period of transition, taking the coup d’état of 23 February 1981 as the crux. An essay based on Javier Cercas’ novel, “Anatomía de un instante”: the instant in which Adolfo Suárez remained seated on the afternoon of 23 February 1981, while the bullets of the coup plotters whizzed around him in the chamber of the Congress of Deputies, and all the other members of the Congress – all except General Gutiérrez Mellado and Santiago Carrillo – sought refuge under their seats. The chronicle of that gesture, the chronicle of a coup d’état and the chronicle of the decisive years in the birth of democracy in Spain.
