La Virgen del Rocío se aparece porque se lo ha dicho su psicóloga
“Miracles? First, therapy.”
After centuries up on the altars, wrapped in incense and promises, surrounded by red carnations and locks of hair, the Virgin of Rocío has finally said: “Enough!” She’s tired of being adored, cheered, complimented—yes—but never *heard*. Tired of being the mother of all, while also the great forgotten one.
While her son hoards the miracles and her husband is praised for his silence, she—the MOTHER—is reduced to a pious ornament. But that ends now. In this celestial comedy, the Virgin books a therapy session. Because even the divine needs help. And 2000 years is a long time…
She just dreams of stepping off the pedestal and dancing wildly to Rita Pavone—because surely, it’s her turn now?
In this irreverent and radiant play, the Virgin of Rocío decides to confront her divine and human traumas and revisit her role in that best-selling patriarchal saga called the Bible. A journey between the mystical and the mundane, where angels struggle with emotional intelligence, saints are clueless about gender, fellow virgins fight over joint custody, and God… well, God has unresolved issues.
The Virgin appears because her therapist told her to. She’s here to tear up holy cards, rethink dogmas, and reclaim a new version of the story. She is not just the eternal mother, the flawless wife, or the tireless caretaker. She is so much more.
Gemma Martínez and Vito Rogado give life to the Virgin and her devotee in a sharp, deeply human conversation about new ways of believing. Is this a world that still needs faith? Or just full of blind devotion?
