Hesia urraturik is the title of the work written by Joxan Goikoetxea in memory of Xabier Lete, presented as a symphonic-choral oratorio. A couple of years ago, we enjoyed a chamber version in our foyer, and now we offer this piece on stage in all its splendor.

Joxan Goikoetxea was a musician, collaborator, and personal friend of Lete. Through this musical idea, he reconstructs a careful selection of texts and melodies by the poet from Oiartzun. The oratorio consists of 13 parts and invites us to relive and delve into various aspects and stages of the philosophical-aesthetic thought and imagination of an artist who, like few others, was able to capture his existentialist concerns and doubts: passion, faith, despair, homeland, nostalgia, love, solidarity, reconciliation, redemption, hope…

This project is driven by Iñaki Tolaretxipi, director of Landarbaso Abesbatza, a choir with which Goikoetxea has been collaborating in recent years. One example is this work, conceived four or five years ago in the context of the tenth anniversary of Lete’s death, an anniversary they considered an ideal opportunity for the premiere and dissemination of the artist’s legacy. The stage of the Teatro Arriaga hosts, in short, a very special performance that pays tribute to one of the great universal Basque creators.
