Aukeran Dance Company creates a new production based on traditional stories from the Basque Country.
Stories and dances are almost as old as life itself. In fact, the tradition of storytelling has been passed down from generation to generation through wonderful tales, and through them we show our children their relationship with life. Stories have been part of human growth since ancient times and allow us to play with our imagination, to fantasise and to create new worlds, characters, landscapes and unreal beings.
With this project, we bring children’s literature closer to our culture through dramatization, music and dance, visiting different towns across our territory. On the one hand, while classical dance has often drawn on traditional tales as its narrative basis, it is also true that dance companies do not usually create their works exclusively for children. On this occasion, the dance company Aukeran creates a new production based on traditional stories from the Basque Country.
A grandmother tells stories to her grandson as he lies in bed. Through choreographies inspired by Basque dances, seven stories will be told, each set in a town from one of the seven Basque territories, with different themes and characters. The stories have been selected by Juan Kruz Igarabide. The script was written by Ekaitz Unai González. Stage direction is by Elena Bezanilla and the music has been composed by Joxan Goikoetxea.
